New Apple iPad Tablet Reader

Unveiled by the man Steve Jobs himself at Apple’s Keynote demo, 27th Jan, the iPad wowed some, but disappointed others. But let’s bear in mind that not many of these critics and reviewers actually have their hands on a real live Apple iPad, for that, most of us will just have to wait until March for the standard WiFi model, or until April for the 3G and WiFi version.

The iPad is incredibly sleek, measuring just 9.56 x 7.47 x 0.5 inches, with a 9.7-inch display. It’s got a fully capacitive TFT LCD multitouch screen with a native resolution of 1024 x 768.

Under the hood is Apple’s new A4 ARM processor, which, through its incredibly efficient power usage promises to decode HD video for up to 10 hours. The iPad will connect to the internet and other networks via 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and on the highest end models, 3G. It comes with Apple’s classic accelerometer, a compass, built-in speaker, a mic, and a standard 30-pin connector.

Both WiFi and 3G models are available with either 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of flash storage. The iPad will be available unlocked to use with a carrier of your choosing, and there are already a couple of data plans available though AT&T. An unlimited connection, which includes being able to use AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots for free, will cost $30 a month with the option to cancel at anytime. The other plan is for 250MB of data priced at $15 – not bad considering it usually costs around $60 for unlimited data on a laptop.

The COOLPIX S70 introduces a new 3.5-in., wide-screen OLED Display with approx. 288k-dot resolution. In addition to the immediately recognizable benefits of vivid color reproduction and sharp contrast, OLED technology also improves power efficiency and allows for a thinner camera design. New capacitive touch screen technology ensures sure and immediate response to finger action on the display’s glass surface. Other features include anti-reflection coating and brightness adjustment.

Five advanced image stabilizing features for sharper results

Nikon’s Optical lens shift and Electronic VR image stabilization systems combine to help produce blur-free images. High ISO 6400 capability allows faster shutter speeds when shooting in low light or capturing fast-moving subjects. Motion Detection automatically controls shutter speed and the ISO setting to compensate for subject movement and camera shake. And, Nikon’s original BSS (Best Shot Selector) function automatically shoots a series of sequential frames and saves the one with the sharpest focus.

Face-priority AF helps produce more satisfying portraits by adjusting focus and exposure for as many as 12 faces in the framed shot. Skin Softening function detects and analyzes a framed subject’s skin, and then adjusts smoothness to produce enhanced results. Smile Timer automatically releases the shutter when the subject smiles, while Blink Warning presents an alert when it suspects that someone in the shot has blinked. In-Camera Red-Eye Fix automatically corrects any perceived red-eye effect before saving the image to memory.
