NFL Military Deal Pick Em Contest

Dedicated To The Memory of Pat Tilman

The NFL Challenge is dedicated to the memory of Pat Tillman. Pat was an American football player who played for the Arizona Cardinals. He left his pro sports career and turned down a $3.6 Million contract to enlist in the United States Army in June 2002 with his brother in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks. He joined the United States Army Rangers and served multiple tours in combat before he was killed while on patrol with the 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger regiment in the mountains of Afghanistan.

How To Play

All new players will need to visit Oconus.com (a valuable military internet directory and resource that you should bookmark if you haven’t already) to sign-up. Previous players can visit the same page and use their username and password to log-in.

On their website you can stay updated about the next drawing times. It is important that you add nflchallenge (at) oconus dot com to your address book to ensure that you receive their Emails with weekly reminders for game start times and any schedule changes.

What is the NFL Challenge?

The NFL challenge is your chance to show how much you know about NFL football by picking the winners of each NFL game every week. Contestants must choose the winner of each contest and put a number of points on each game.

If there are 15 NFL games in a week, the contestant could put 15 points on one game, 14 points on another, game, 13 points on another game and so-on. If the Rams happen to be playing the Lions one week and you feel sure that the Rams will win, you would choose the Rams and put 15 points on that game. If the Cowboys were playing the Redskins and you viewed this game as a toss-up, you would pick the Cowboys (or the Redskins) and put 1 point on the game.

Each number can only be used for one game. At the end of the week the contestant’s score will be the total of the points for each game in which the contestant correctly picked the winner.

Here’s an example for a sample four game week:

Game 1: Rams VS Lions
Game 2: Cowboys VS Saints
Game 3: Jets VS Dolphins
Game 4: Eagles VS Vikings

For each game the contestant picks a winner and assigns a point total that indicates how confident the contestant is of the winner. Contestants can only use a given number of points one time.

For this example, a contestant might make these picks:

Game 1: Rams - 4 points
Game 2: Saints - 2 points
Game 3: Jets - 1 points
Game 4: Vikings - 3 points

If a contestant’s pick wins the game then they get the point total for that game. If the contestant’s pick loses the game then they get 0 points for that game. If the two teams tie each other then the contestant also gets 0 points for that game.

Let’s say the games are played with the following outcomes:

Game 1: Rams - 34 : Lions - 12 / 4 points earned
Game 2: Cowboys - 28 : Saints - 27 / 0 points earned
Game 3: Jets - 45 : Dolphins - 44 / 1 point earned
Game 4: Eagles - 12 : Vikings - 24 / 3 points earned

The contestant would then have a total of 8 points for the week. Point totals are cumulative week after week, and a contestant can double his or her score by entering a secret code that is published each week in the Stars and Stripes. Each week has a winner and the person with the highest score at the end of the contest wins a grand prize!

New iMac Features Updated

The iMac’s display offers an amazing 2560 x 1440-pixel resolution (for high-definition-plus viewing), and it uses IPS technology to deliver consistent color across an ultra wide 178 degree viewing angle. This 21.5-inch model also features improved graphics with the ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphics processor with 256 MB of dedicated video memory. It’s powered by a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, which provides an optimized, multithreaded architecture for improved multitasking, video, and gaming performance. This 27-inch model can also be attached to a wall mount, articulating arm, or other VESA-compliant mounting solution using an optional VESA Mount Adapter Kit.

It comes pre-loaded with Apple’s Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard operating system–an operating system custom-designed for the advanced technology inside–and it also comes with the iLife ’09 suite of applications, including iPhoto, iMovie, Garageband, and iTunes.

The new iMac has come a long way from the first 15-inch iMac. The all-in-one design of the first flat-panel iMac cleaned up the desktop, and put everything you need–display, processor, graphics card, hard drive, optical drive, memory, and more–inside one simple enclosure. New technology inside and out makes the new iMac a worthy addition to the all-in-one dynasty.

This 21.5-inch model features an edge-to-edge glass display that covers nearly the entire front of the enclosure. When all you see is the display, nothing gets between you and what’s onscreen. Movies, TV shows, websites, photos–everything looks stunning on the new 16:9 widescreen iMac display. And the LED backlighting in the new iMac helps push more light through the pixels with remarkable brightness and efficiency. And because the LED backlight doesn’t take up much space, the iMac enclosure stays thin–even with all the high-performance components inside.

The iMac display is designed to look great from almost any angle. A technology called in-plane switching (IPS) makes this possible. Whether you’re sitting in front of the display or standing off to the side, you’ll get a perfect picture with superb color consistency and no loss of detail.

The wider iMac display allows more room to separate the two hottest components, the CPU and the GPU. This keeps things cool inside the iMac enclosure. Apple engineers also implemented an intelligent control system that monitors temperatures and delivers just the right amount of airflow to critical components. MACBOOK PRO OVERVIEW

Featuring a precision unibody enclosure crafted from a single block of aluminum, the MacBook Pro is thinner and lighter than its predecessor as well as stronger and more durable. But Apple didn’t stop innovating with the body’s design. The MacBook Pro also includes a new 15-inch, LED-backlit glass display (instead of an LCD panel) as well as a glass trackpad that doesn’t include a button (for larger tracking area) that features Apple’s Multi-Touch technology.

The 15-inch unibody MacBook Pro

This 15-inch MacBook Pro (model MC118LL/A) also now includes Apple’s innovative built-in notebook battery for up to 7 hours of wireless productivity on a single charge without adding thickness, weight or cost. Using Adaptive Charging and advanced chemistry first introduced with the 17-inch MacBook Pro the built-in battery delivers up to 1000 recharges before it reaches 80 percent of its original capacity–nearly three times the lifespan of conventional batteries.

Under the hood, the MacBook Pro is powered by a powerful 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor (with 3 MB L2 cache and 1066 MHz front-side bus), which runs applications faster and more efficiently as well as helps to reduce power requirements and save on battery life. And video is powered by the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M integrated graphics processor, which provides an outstanding everyday graphics experience with up to a 5x performance boost.

Traditionally notebooks are made from multiple parts. With the MacBook Pro all of those parts with just one part–the breakthrough unibody enclosure. Every MacBook Pro starts its life as a single block of aluminum, which is precisely machined into the basic unibody design. Another pass and the unibody takes shape. Another, and the integrated keyboard emerges. When you pick up a new MacBook Pro, you immediately notice the entire enclosure is thinner and lighter. And it feels strong and durable–perfect for life inside (and outside) your briefcase or backpack.

The standard aluminum electro-static trackpad has been replaced with a new glass Multi-Touch trackpad, which provides 40 percent more tracking area than before. Use two fingers to scroll up and down a page. Pinch to zoom in and out. Rotate an image with your fingertips. Swipe with three fingers to flip through your photo libraries. Swipe with four fingers to show your desktop, view all open windows, or switch applications. The entire trackpad surface is also a button, allowing you to both track and click virtually anywhere on the trackpad. And you can easily enable multiple virtual buttons in software, such as right-clicking.

The keyboard has also been improved, with the rigid aluminum keyboard webbing cut precisely to hold the keys, which are curved to perfectly fit fingers. And it’s illuminated, so when you’re in low-light settings, such as airplanes or conference rooms, you can always see what you’re typing.

The 15-inch display is made of edge-to-edge, uninterrupted glass for a smooth, seamless surface and features LED backlighting for brilliant instant-on performance that uses up to 30 percent less energy than its predecessor. The ultra-thin displays provide crisp images and vivid colors which are ideal for viewing photos and movies

The 15-inch MacBook Pro now includes a newly engineered lithium-polymer battery that that lasts up to 7 hours on a single charge thanks to advanced chemistry, intelligent monitoring of the system and battery, and Adaptive Charging technology. The battery is built right into the computer, eliminating the space-consuming mechanisms and housings that standard removable batteries require. This non-removable battery also provides a longer battery lifespan of up to 1000 recharges–meaning fewer depleted batteries and less waste, which is better for the environment.

Giving it a lifespan of up to 1000 recharges required breakthroughs in battery technology. Apple electro-chemists developed advanced chemistry that maintains the battery’s charging capabilities longer than ever. Apple iPad

Unveiled by the man Steve Jobs himself at Apple’s Keynote demo, 27th Jan, the iPad wowed some, but disappointed others. But let’s bear in mind that not many of these critics and reviewers actually have their hands on a real live Apple iPad, for that, most of us will just have to wait until March for the standard WiFi model, or until April for the 3G and WiFi version.

The iPad is incredibly sleek, measuring just 9.56 x 7.47 x 0.5 inches, with a 9.7-inch display. It’s got a fully capacitive TFT LCD multitouch screen with a native resolution of 1024 x 768.

Under the hood is Apple’s new A4 ARM processor, which, through its incredibly efficient power usage promises to decode HD video for up to 10 hours.

The iPad will connect to the internet and other networks via 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and on the more expensive models, 3G.

It comes with Apple’s classic accelerometer, a compass, built-in speaker, a mic, and a standard 30-pin connector.

Both WiFi and 3G models are available with either 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of flash storage.

The iPad will be available unlocked to use with a carrier of your choosing, and there are already a couple of data plans available though AT&T.

An unlimited connection, which includes being able to use AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots for free, will cost $30 a month with the option to cancel at anytime. The other plan is for 250MB of data priced at $15 – not bad considering it usually costs around $60 for unlimited data on a laptop.

Downside of iPad

On the downside, there are rumors that the iPad can not multitask, however I’m still unclear as to why exactly this is. Perhaps the way the OS docks and hides running applications leads one to believe this? On the other hand it could be true.

The bezel is also noticeably fat, but this is surely to stop the thumbs from making any accidental commands on the touch screen?

The discussion about the iPad’s pros and cons could go on for ever, but until the general public get their hands on the product, it’s difficult to judge if Apple’s tablet will revolutionize computing, or if it will simply become a gadget for Apple fanboys…..and girls.

No matter which orientation you use, you can scroll through your mail, compose a new email using the large, onscreen keyboard, or delete messages with nothing more than a tap and a flick. If someone emails you a photo, you can see it right in the message. You can also save the photos in an email directly to the built-in Photos app. And iPad works with all the most popular email providers, including MobileMe, Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, Hotmail, and AOL.

Photos

With its crisp, vibrant display and unique software features, iPad is an extraordinary way to enjoy and share your photos. For example, the Photos app displays the photos in an album as though they were in a stack. Just tap the stack, and the whole album opens up. From there, you can flip through your pictures, zoom in or out, or watch a slideshow. You can even use your iPad as a beautiful digital photo frame while it’s docked or charging. And there are lots of ways to import photos: You can sync them from your computer, download them from an email, or import them directly from your camera using the optional Camera Connection Kit.

Video

The large, high-resolution screen makes iPad perfect for watching any kind of video: from HD movies and TV shows to podcasts and music videos. Switch between widescreen and full screen with a double-tap. Because iPad is essentially one big screen, with no distracting keypad or buttons, you feel completely immersed in whatever you’re watching.

YouTube

The YouTube app organizes videos so they’re easy to see and navigate. To watch one, just tap it. When you’re watching in landscape, the video automatically plays in full screen. And with its high-resolution display, iPad makes the latest HD YouTube videos look positively amazing.

iPod

With the iPod app, all your music is literally at your fingertips. Browse by album, song, artist, or genre with a simple flick. To play a song, just tap it. iPad even displays album art at full size. Listen to your music with the powerful built-in speaker or with wired or Bluetooth wireless headphones.

iTunes

A tap of the iTunes icon lets you browse and buy music, TV shows, and podcasts — or buy and rent movies — wirelessly, right from your iPad. Choose from thousands of movies and TV shows (in both standard and high definition), along with thousands of podcasts and millions of songs. Preview songs before you buy them. Or just sync iPad with the content you already have in your iTunes library on your Mac or PC.

App Store

iPad runs almost 140,000 apps from the App Store. Everything from games to business apps and more. And new apps designed specifically for iPad are highlighted, so you can easily find the ones that take full advantage of its features. Just tap the App Store icon on the screen to browse, buy, and download apps wirelessly, right to the iPad.

iBooks

The iBooks app is a great new way to read and buy books.1 Download the free app from the App Store and buy everything from classics to best sellers from the built-in iBookstore. Once you’ve bought a book, it’s displayed on your Bookshelf. Just tap it to start reading. The high-resolution, LED-backlit screen displays everything in sharp, rich color, so it’s easy to read, even in low light.

Maps

Finding your way is a completely new experience on iPad. Tap to view maps from above with high-resolution satellite imagery, up close with street view, or with topography in a new terrain view — all using Google Services. Search for a nearby restaurant or landmark, then get directions from your current location.

Notes

With its expansive display and large, onscreen keyboard, iPad makes jotting down notes easy. In landscape view, you see not only a note-taking page but a list of all your notes. iPad even circles the current note in red, so you can see where you are at a glance.

Calendar

iPad makes it easy to stay on schedule by displaying day, week, month, or list views of your calendar. You can see an overview of a whole month or the details of a single day. iPad even shows multiple calendars at once, so you can manage work and family schedules at the same time.

Contacts

The Contacts app on iPad makes finding names, numbers, and other important information quicker and easier than ever before. A new view lets you see both your complete contacts list and a single contact simultaneously. Need directions? Tap an address inside a contact and iPad automatically opens Maps.

Home Screen

The Home screen gives you one-tap access to everything on iPad. You can customize your Home screen by adding your favorite apps and websites or using your own photos as the background. And you can move apps around to arrange them in any order you want.

Spotlight Search

Spotlight Search allows you to search across iPad and all of its built-in apps, including Mail, Contacts, Calendar, iPod, and Notes. It even searches apps you’ve downloaded from the App Store. So no matter what you’re looking for, it’s never more than a few taps away.

Accessibility

iPad comes with a screen reader, support for playback of closed-captioned content, and other innovative universal access features — right out of the box. Connectivity
